Should Wyoming Join Colorado In Banning Plastic Bags?

The Colorado Legislature recently approved a ban on plastic bags and styrofoam containers.

While the law will be phased in over the next few years and will include some exemptions, it’s the latest in a series of state laws that target plastic bags. Fort Collins already has a ban on plastic bags in large grocery stores in place. That ban was approved by voters in April, according to the City of Fort Collins website.

According to the website, the Fort Collins law includes the following provisions:

”Disposable Bag Ordinance States:

  • Ban on the distribution of single-use plastic bags and

New CEO says no immediate changes

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly has been asked countless times over the past decade whether the airline might join its competitors in charging for checked bags.

His answers have ranged from never say never to, in recent years, an emphatic defense of its bags-fly-free policy in the face of billions in revenue rivals collect from checked-bag fees. At least a few times, he went so far as to say bags will remain free as long as he’s CEO.

So Wednesday’s announcement that Kelly is stepping down as CEO in February raises a key question for travelers: will bags still fly

For Gloria Majiga-Kamoto, her great awakening to plastic pollution started with goats.

She was working for a local environmental nongovernmental organization in her native Malawi with a program that gave goats to rural farmers. The farmers would use the goats’ dung to produce low-cost, high-quality organic fertilizer.

The problem? The thin plastic bags covering the Malawian countryside.

“We have this very common

Who’s ready for a new bag? It’s a rhetorical question, obviously. Handbags are something we use pretty much every day of our lives, so why wouldn’t we want more, more, more? We wear different tops and bottoms every day of the week (well, usually), so why shouldn’t we have different bags too?

Okay, maybe we don’t need seven different bags for every week of the year, but we do think we’re completely justified in treating ourselves to a cute bag every once in

No more bags!: July 1 marks the start of Maine’s ban on single-use bags, polystyrene

REGION — Back in June of 2019 the Maine State Legislature passed a law banning the use of single-use plastic carry-out bags. The law was set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2021. Then the pandemic hit and most retailers banned reusable bags for months; then consumers who wanted to use them were told they would have to pack their own merchandise.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection delayed enforcing the ban, which includes polystyrene foam food containers, until July 1, 2021. That reprieve gave Republican lawmakers time to introduce bills that would repeal the law, but those efforts went

Colorado Will Ban Plastic Bags And Plastic Foam Containers. There Are Several Exceptions, However.

Pushback from state Republicans, plastic industry lobbyists, and some in the business community weakened several aspects of the bill.

One big change is that small stores, which the state describes as any business with three or fewer locations, are now exempt from the ban and can continue to use plastic bags if they are not prohibited by their municipality.

State Rep. Lisa Cutter, a Jefferson County Democrat who co-sponsored the bill, said she was disappointed by the change, which came during negotiations on the Senate floor.

“It removes a significant portion of stores,” said Cutter, who could not estimate how
