Etsy to buy fashion reseller Depop for $1.63 billion in Gen-Z push

Bengaluru: Etsy Inc. said on Wednesday it would acquire Gen-Z focused fashion reseller Depop for $1.63 billion, as the online seller looks to attract younger shoppers.

Young consumers are increasingly moving towards second-hand fashion, conscious of the environment and carbon footprint of the clothing industry. Between 2019 and 2024, the second-hand clothing market in the US is projected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39% to $64 billion. Globally, the industry would outpace fast fashion twice over in the same time period, Etsy said.

Depop, an online marketplace to buy and sell new or second-hand apparel,

Now he’s doing his best to change attitudes to his profession across Africa and create opportunities for the next generation.

‘I felt nauseous in Topshop’: why a fashion editor gave up buying new clothes | Fashion

It was April 2019. I was seven months pregnant and in Topshop, looking for something large in which to rehome my body.

I was wearing a maternity dress that, if you had seen me pregnant, you would have recognised – a cheap, pleated wraparound in a red floral print that expanded as I expanded. I imagined Issey Miyake, but increasingly looked more like an armchair. It had served me well, but I was determined to buy something, anything, to see me through the next few months.

Simone Biles Drops Nike For Gap’s Women-First Athleta

History’s most decorated gymnast, Simone Biles, is leaving her partnership with Nike for an endorsement deal with Athleta, the women’s athleticwear division of Gap. Biles, a five-time Olympic medalist, will have her own performancewear line with the brand.

Biles has been sponsored by Nike for five years, but her move to the smaller, female-focused brand seems to have been motivated by a better alignment of values. “I felt like it wasn’t just about my achievements, it’s what I stood for and how they were going to help me use my voice and also be a voice for females and kids,”

Rent the Runway Is Bouncing Back

Ms. Hyman said the valuation dip did not mean anything. The company needed money to ensure it was prepared for any scenario, she said, pointing out that nobody knew when the pandemic would abate.

Of all the changes Rent the Runway made to its business last year, the biggest was the shift from its unlimited offering, which had allowed subscribers to swap as many items as they wanted for a monthly fee. Now, it offers a few different tiers — users can rent up to four items per month, in one shipment, for $89, or up to 16 items, and

The Joy of Eurovision Fashion

It is an uncomfortable reality of the modern communal spectacle that more often than not, when it comes to a major award show or performance extravaganza or even sporting event, marketing has overwhelmed personal expression — at least when it comes to the clothes. Red carpets are a big business for public personalities, and fear of looking silly an equally powerful deterrent. Brands have swooped in to exploit that tension to their own ends.

We wrote off the Oscars years ago, but when even the MTV Video Awards and the Olympics become hashtag opportunities for Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Ralph

Fashion is more than a statement. It’s a form of communication. A person’s style is a form of self-confidence and what they stand for, whether or not they realize it. Fashion psychology encompasses how individuals perceive or judge one another, one’s identity or personality, buying motivators and market research on consumer behavior.

Shakaila Forbes-Bell, founder of Fashion Is Psychology (FiP), assists companies in identifying how to create better consumer experiences for their customers through the psychology of fashion.
