Elderly targeted in jewelry-snatch robberies

Elderly people walking alone have been the targets in three of four jewelry snatch robberies

Elderly people walking alone have been the targets in three of four jewelry snatch robberies in Fremont over the past two weeks, police said.

According to police, whoever is pulling the robberies has used different methods. The robberies have happened after the suspect has asked for directions or told them to prepare for a birthday gift.

After saying the birthday gift is jewelry and starting to put plastic jewelry on the victim, the suspect simultaneously snatches the real jewelry, police said.

None of the victims were harmed physically.

Police are urging Fremont residents not to walk alone and to leave large amounts of cash or expensive jewelry at home. They also encouraged walkers always to be alert about who is in your neighborhood and not to be distracted by music or their cell phone.
